Chus L. Esteban, Madrid 1971, started his professional career at the end of the 80s in his home town, amidst the full-blown euphoria of the acid-house movement at 'Alien', one of the first clubs of the famous Kapital Group. In August of '92 he was invited to play at the mythical Portuguese club Kadoc, where he was fortunate enough to share the booth with the best international DJs of the time, witnessing from a privileged position the dance music evolution that took place during the 90's. It was then that his style, influenced by the Portuguese and American underground sounds, definitely converged into house.
When In September '94 Madrids first house club, Teatro Kapital, was inaugurated, Chus became the clubs first emblematic resident DJ, lasting an extraordinary 10 years. While at the same time maintaining his relationship with Kadoc. His innate desire to create and improve led him to try his hand at production, with the guidance of the then up and coming David Penn, a logical and well chosen step in his career.
Along the way Chus was to meet someone who would influenced the following 10 years, Pablo Ceballos whose techno background gelled with Chus's house style. From this fusion emerged the Iberican Sound concept which then evolved into a worldwide movement. The Iberican Sound is his trademark, a personal vision of house music, which has contributed positively to the worldwide electronic music scene, and which opened the door for things to come, the oportunity to play in Ibiza, a passport to the top100DJMag and the recognition of the whole international community reflected in the many awards Chus has collected throughout his career. 'DJ of the Year', 'Best House DJ', 'Best Remixer' or 'Best House Label' from Spanish Deejay Magazine to name but a few.

We are super excited about International Dj\Producer & Techno Superstar UMEK Joining the Kult on KULT.fm - Tune in the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 8:00pm (EST) / 5:00pm (PST)
For a long time, Slovenia is known for its great electronic parties, but as the local scene is of boutique dimensions, everyone, who wishes to take the art of mixing and producing to a professional level, has to go out there and enter the worldwide scene. Umek has done this step as early as in the middle of the 90s and so he became one of the most important techno players of the global techno scene, even before the end of the last millennium. Together with people, who shared the same views, he successfully captured the first era of researching and recreating the rules of the dance music in Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco platforms, which all put the sound of the Slovenian techno on the world map of electronic music.
Nominations and winnings on world's prestigious music contests seem to just pour into Umek's pocket he was voted to first place on Beatport's world Music Awards in techno category, not to mention he was one of the 2009's Best Sellers on Beatport. On last year's DJ Mag Top 100 DJs he was placed on 3rd spot in techno and on 39th spot in overall category.

Production-wise we can also count year 2010 as one of the most successful ones for Umek. In the last two months he had two tracks on Beatport's overall chart placed on the first spot the banging OMGWTF track and Back In The Race, which he produced with Beltek.
But Umek's success story is far from done. In the middle of December an interesting documentary named "Techno heavy-weights Umek & Carl Cox in back to back interview" will be released to the world in which he and Carl Cox debate about their past, music and the future of techno. A must-see for all who consider themselves electronic music lovers. Last but not least a totally new remake of his classic Gatex (named Gatex 2010) is coming to the digital shelves in just a week. —umek.si
